Wrapping up this week getting to talk with Perrin DesPortes, Co-Founder and Partner at Polaris Healthcare Partners, where they help guide entrepreneurial dentists on how to build and exit successful group practices.
Perrin was 4th generation in a family-owned company in the dental distribution industry. Getting this cool insight and look at running a business at such a young age, it’s not surprising he gravitated toward the industry and has worked his way up the ladder, to now running his own successful business.
“Having candid conversations with your dad about the challenges and setbacks of building a business, growing a business…it changes your mindset around business and leadership.”
After moving into a 15-year career with Patterson Dental Supply and then moving on to Co-Found TUSK Partners, the idea for Polaris Healthcare Partners came out of his desire to spend more time with his wife and daughter while still filling a need for dentists.
From how he runs his business to where he spends his free time (like biking to raise money for cancer), Perrin is always giving back. One of the reasons I love talking with him is how full of knowledge he is, but also the kind and generous person he is.
“There are a lot of people who have it a lot worse than we do…this is a cause I believe in and I try to do my part.”
Their team serves their clients by using unique techniques they’ve developed to focus on adjusting mindsets, narrowing in on goals, and providing action steps needed to get them there. What they’ve set out to do is not only great for the dental industry, but other industries struggling with the same things as well.
“If you’re motivated and you master your craft, you will make a lot of money….don’t take a job for the money, make your primary reason for taking a job for some aspect of mentorship.”
This was just the tip of the iceberg for all the great stuff we got to talk about today, listen to the full episode for more great insight into where Perrin started and how he got to where he is today.
